“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.”

Everyone has a way to change the world, whether it’s making videos or speaking publicly. People say that they are going to change the world someway and usually it’s not as big as Mother Theresa but it’s always something. Another way could be to write a list of ways just like Mahatma Ghandi. He wrote his Top 10 Fundamentals for Changing the World. It was ten main points and then interesting quotes spoken by Mahatma Ghandi.

Reading all the amazing quotes was inspiring to make me get up and do something. Doing something that changes someone will always change at least another person. I believe that it is true whether it’s just to change the schedule of when you eat breakfast in the morning or to stop slavery. In my opinion it is a very motivating idea to write ten ways to do something and write in quotes from a important person.

The Connected World unit has taught me a lot this year. From articles I have read to projects we have done. I learned a lot about many countries and issues I never knew existed. The article connects to what I have learned because all the important issues I have learned about could always be solved somehow. Ghandi’s ten ways are some ways that could do that not always to the biggest issues like global warming but to other ones.

I think that everyone has their own way of changing the world. Mine would be just to write something like this article with my ten ways and add to it quotes of someone who changed the world. People should start to do something even small things. I read another article about changing the world by using videos and that is a great idea. If I ever get inspired by something I will try and do a video on YouTube. Just like everyone else says, I am going to change the world someday and somehow.

Russia and the U.S. Nuclear Weapons: Connected World Post

Russia and the U.S. Nuclear Weapons

I’m back to post about Russia and other republics this week. I got the post from worldfocus.org. The country was Russia and here is a link to the post. The post also had a video on it which was very useful to know what was going on. I chose this story because I thought it was the most important story on the website. It was also interesting to read about it and know what was happening between Russia and the U.S. and their nuclear weapons.

On Thursday May 7th 2009 Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met in Washington with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. They discussed the importance of reducing nuclear arsenals. They both expressed optimism that disagreements that have strained Russian-American relations in recent years are easing, and will not stand in the way of a new round of arms control negotiations. The treaty is also expiring on December 5th, 2009. In the video Daryl Kimball, the executive director of the Arms Control Association, joins Martin Savidge to discuss the nuclear arsenals of Russia and the U.S., the imminent expiration of the start treaty reducing nuclear weaponry and the future of arms talks. It also said that America and Russia have 95% of the world’s nuclear weapons.

I think that it was right that Lavrov and Clinton both discussed what they could do to stop all of it. I liked reading the post a lot because it wasn’t too much writing and it wasn’t too little. I found it very astonishing that the U.S. and Russia together have 95% of the world’s nuclear weapons. It was a very fascinating idea to put a video on it. The post was easy to understand and read. I had watched the video before reading the post so it was intriguing.

The post was fun to read and I really hope I would be able to find a continuing blog post about the topic. The only question I have in mind is what is going to happen and will they post more about the topic. What questions do you have in mind?

Journal Prompt – Advise for 7th graders

Seventh grade is not the hardest thing to do. The only way you will live will be to follow some advice of previous seventh graders. Much homework is given and you would want to do more school activities and do things with friends. The only easy way to get through all of it is to follow your own schedule. Making your own schedule and following it will make life a lot easier and I have experienced it. In sixth grade you would have done more fun activities however in seventh grade it’s not as balanced. You would eventually get used to the homework balance.

In seventh grade you would be expected to do more things than you have done in sixth grade because you should have gotten used to the middle school experience. Advise would be not to question any of the teachers on any amount of anything. There will be more projects that require full effort and creativity. Having fun is the most important thing the teachers want even if it doesn’t seem like it at first. Good Luck!

3 Paragraphs- 3 Characters

  1. She looked at the old dreadful house and couldn’t move. It was so old yet so beautiful. Even though she had been investing in mansions to live in she wanted this house. It was like she was in a trance, unable to move or stop admiring the house. She knew that she would somehow buy it in the next week and be living with her family in her dream house. The house was damaged on the other hand to her it was royal. She stared at the house and all she thought about was magnificent.
  2. He jogged around the curve making sure he wouldn’t trip and ruin the only good pair of shoes he had. He stopped to rest at the ugliest house on the street with frightening crows all over it. He thought about how fun it would be to make a haunted house out of the vacant house. October was still a few months away nevertheless it didn’t stop him from thinking about it. It was as if the house was speaking to him and exploding with ideas he could make true. It went quiet when he knew he wouldn’t do any of this. The last thing he heard was the house telling him he could do it.
  3. The girl was walking with friends when she unexpectedly looked at the ugliest house that all the girls shunned from their disappointment. The girl looked at it in disgust. “Who would ever bring their family to live here?” she thought to herself. The house was a dead zombie that had come back to dissatisfy people. She looked at it closer and she heard faint whispers telling her not to judge the rusted and damaged house. She stared a few minutes in amazement and stalked off attempting to forget everything that had happened in just those few minutes.

Extra Reflection about Reflections: Reading

I read three blogs about reading and the people’s relationship with it. It really interested me to read the people who enjoyed reading rather than the people who did not. That is why I only chose blogs about people enjoying it for fun. I liked reading about it because I do enjoy reading about how people enjoyed it since I can’t enjoy it myself.

The bloggers had all stated that reading would relax them and take away all the pressure of school and other things. Another similarity was that all of them had enjoyed picture books when they were young. They all had also all had their parents read to them before bed. A difference would be that one of them had disliked reading until a few years ago while the other two had liked reading since their childhood and want to read more challenging books.

All the bloggers enjoy reading very much and that makes me feel happy that not everyone has to hate reading and never feel the pleasure. It was delightful to read them and I hope that one day I will enjoy reading and be like them.

Reflection About Reflections: Internet

I have read three blogs so far and they all relate to the internet and themselves. The three blog posts that I read were very interesting to know about the people and whether or not they are addicted. I can somehow relate to what the bloggers had said about themselves. Whether they would rather go and meet up with friends or stay online all day addicted.

I was a little bit surprised to find out that some people would rather play games rather then communicate with friends. Although I had a completely different opinion there was a side of me that knew how the person had felt and why they would rather do that. All three of the bloggers that I had read about had all declared that they were not necessarily addicted but the internet is part of their life.

Two of the three bloggers had said they would be constantly online checking things and communicating. Two of the three were both addicted and that confirms that they believe people can be addicted and the other blogger said it does not exist. A difference I found was that two blog had clearly stated that their use of the internet was related to school and mostly communication. The other was completely different not really caring to communicate when they could be with their friends in person.

When I had finished reading all the blog posts I thought about how different people could be and how we are becoming addicted. We might not be fully addicted now but the rate that technology is increasing the risk of it is very high. I don’t think it is a very bad thing to be addicted to it apart from that it could distract many students and employees from their work. It could also lead to unhealthy habits and being excluded and non social except when on the internet. Over all the blogs were fascinating and stated their opinions well.

Childhood memories: Reading

I am writing about my childhood memories about reading. I have a few memories I remember. The strongest memory I have is that I had disliked reading and still do till this very day. My mother had always tried to solve the dilemma of not reading at all. The result was still the same; I had disliked it and I haven’t found a way to enjoy it.

Since the day I was born my mother had been convincing me to read. She would read to me every night and try and get me to talk about the pictures. It was amusing to watch how I had reacted to this disgrace. I would immediately react to this and start to push the books far away from me. It had been very clear to my mother that I had loathed books. So she had tried to make up her own stories to entertain me before going to bed. Consequently I started to enjoy her stories even the ones that she had just memorized from a book. The problem was seeing the book in her hands and knowing that she wasn’t the one telling the story. That is why till this day I am not fond of reading.

Another memory was when I just started second grade. It was the day we had gotten our reading lists. The reading lists consist of lines in which you have to write what you had read, the time it took you, the rating, and the number of pages. My emotion was neutral it was like any other day. I had taken the paper and continued the day. I went home and as soon as I went home I took the reading list and looked at it. I knew that I didn’t like to read and that I never would so I had asked my mother to tell me a bedtime story and she did. I had been listening to stories instead of reading them and eventually the teachers found out and had made me read. However nothing ever seemed to convince me to like reading.

Reading has always been something I dislike and till this day I read only to succeed and not to enjoy. I always have envied the children who had enjoyed to read and I am still hoping to somehow finally enjoy reading.

Blog Post #5!!! :)

Blog Post #5!!!! J

I am back to blog about Russian and places around it and this week I have chosen to write a post about the new Russian nuclear icebreaker. The article was fun to read because I would rather read something about good news rather than bad. I also enjoyed reading this because I like to know about the special things like building vehicles that are found nowhere else. The story was pleasing to read and I understood it.

Russia is planning to finish construction of a third-generation nuclear-powered icebreaker by 2015. Sergei Kiriyenko had said “A federal program has allocated 17 billion rubles [$500 mln] for the development of a new-generation icebreaker,” and “The Iceberg Design Bureau in St. Petersburg would prepare the design of the icebreaker by 2010.”This should be a double-hull icebreaker capable of moving in rivers and seas”.

Using topix.com was simple to use. The internet was working perfectly and the article was intriguing. I thought that topix.com was more complex before actually using it and I was happy to find out it was the opposite.

I will be blogging next week about something even more fascinating. . I found this article on www.topix.com .It had been posted 21st of April and then it linked me to this website: http://en.rian.ru/russia/20090421/121232033.html. Until next time.

Connected World Post 4!!!!!!

Connected World Post 4!!!

I’m back and this week my post is going to be about literature from Russia. I researched many authors in Russia and I chose Anton Pavlovich Chekhov because I really enjoyed reading his short story Vanka. Anton writes in a very creative way and I enjoy his style. He was a Russian short-story writer, playwright and physician, he was considered to be one of the greatest short-story writers in world literature. He died July 15, 1904 (aged 44). I think that he died very young and that he could have written many short stories and not only been famous in Russia but also in other countries.

I read the story “Vanka”, it is about a little nine-year-old boy named Vanka Zhukov, who had been apprentice to the shoemaker. It is based in Russia and it is the night before Christmas. Vanka is writing a letter to his grandfather and that is what the story is about, his letter to his grandfather. Vanka is an orphan and he only has his grandfather Konstantin Makarych. It is very sad because his master had thrashed him the day before by dragging him by his hair all the way to the yard only because unfortunately by mistake he was cradling the masters son and Vanka had fallen asleep himself. The theme of the story is sad because you feel very sorry for Vanka and wish you could help him through his troubles.

I knew that the story was Russian because the name ‘Vanka’ is a Russian name also all the names mentioned are Russian. Vanka writes his letter in an ink pen so I can tell it’s based in the old times also the language is very old. Vanka wears a sheep-skin coat which is done in Russia. Vanka mentions Moscow which is a city in Russia.

As I said before the story is very sad and you would want to help Vanka in every way possible. When I read it I really wanted to go back to that time and help him. Look the story up and read it you will really enjoy it. I will be back to post next week!
